After a sauna session
Follow the heater manufacturer’s shutdown and drying instructions. Keep the ventilation openings unobstructed and allow wet surfaces to dry. Remove damp towels and other items rather than leaving them on the benches. Clean the seating and floor using the methods recommended for the sauna materials.
Do not put a household cleaner, oil or coating on the interior merely because it is suitable for outdoor furniture. Confirm that a product is appropriate for the particular sauna surface and follow the supplied care instructions.
Check the structure and exterior
- Look for water collecting around the base and keep drainage paths clear.
- Check doors, hardware, steps and seating for changes that need adjustment.
- Inspect the roof and exterior finish using the access and maintenance methods recommended for the model.
- For a barrel, follow its manual’s band-inspection and tightening procedure. Do not use an invented universal tightening schedule or force setting.
Care for the heater separately
The heater has its own maintenance requirements. Follow its manual for stones, cleaning and inspections. Wood-burning systems also require appropriate stove and chimney care. Let equipment cool and use qualified service where the manual or the work requires it.
Winter and seasonal planning
Keep the route to the sauna and the doorway usable. Follow the model’s guidance for snow and ice around the structure and roof. If something appears damaged after severe weather, arrange an assessment before continued use. Ask our team for the instructions for extended periods when the sauna will not be used.
Maintenance and warranty are different
Our published sauna warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential use for five years from receipt by the original end-user consumer. It excludes normal wear, natural weather conditions, regular maintenance, misuse and negligence. Read the complete current terms; do not assume that routine cleaning, staining or tightening barrel bands is warranty work.
To discuss an issue, contact Great Canadian Saunas with your model, purchase information and a clear description. We can help identify the appropriate next step without guessing the cause from a short message.
